High school golf: Braves close in on title

By The Daily Item

MIDDLEBURG -- With one match remaining in the regular season, Shikellamy still can't get much breathing room over Midd-West in the Heartland-I.

The Braves inched closer to a conference title by edging the Mustangs 334-335 at Shade Mountain Golf Course on Thursday.

C.J. Tyler shot a 75 to lead Shikellamy (23-2) and place himself second among the day's medalists. Dakota Portzline added an 85 for the Braves.

Midd-West (21.5-3.5) was led by a 76 from Adam Winey and a 78 from Blake Zechman.

The top five teams were all within 15 strokes of each other. Following Shikellamy and Midd-West, Loyalsock/Montoursville was third (342) and Williamsport (348) and Selinsgrove (349) rounded out the top five.

Colin Rice joined the medalists for the Seals by carding a 77 on the par-72 course.

MONTGOMERY -- Danville clinched its fourth consecutive conference title by taking a one-stroke victory over Lewisburg, 334-335, on White Deer Golf Course's Challenge Course.

Robbie Seebold shot an 80, while Austin Renz and Zach Schutter both carded 83s for the Ironmen (29-1), who claimed the past three Division II titles and a title in Division I prior to that.

Lewisburg (23-7) was led by an 81 from Will Sumfest and an 84 from Jordan Massoud, followed by a pair of 85s from Ben Apple and Russell Nash.
