Valley contingent named to preseason all-star teams

By The Daily Item

Southern Columbia will be looking to make the end of last season a distant memory.

Four Tigers were named to either the Class A first or second teams as the Pennsylvania Football News released its preseason all-state teams on Monday.

The first team contingent was a group of linemen for Southern, with senior Josh Tripp receiving the nod on the offensive side of the ball and fellow senior Cody Pavlick and junior Trent Donlan named on defense. Both Donlan and Tripp will be key pieces for the Tigers this season as experienced starters.

A name that should be familiar to area fans was the second-team recipient for Southern.

Adam Feudale burst on the scene last year in his first year starting in the backfield for head coach Jim Roth, wasting little time making an impact. Feudale finished the year with 1,179 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground and was named to the HAC-III first team.

In Southern's 35-29 loss to Dunmore in the PIAA Class A first round last season, Feudale rushed for 109 yards, including a five-yard score late in the fourth quarter as Southern tried to mount a furious comeback to keep its season alive.

Feudale was not the only game-changer from the Valley named to an all-state team. Bloomsburg's Ricky Klingerman was named as an offensive specialist on the Class A first team. The Panthers quarterback threw for 25 scores last season and 2,501 yards with the benefit of tossing the ball up to his cousin and teammate, John Klingerman.

John caught 13 touchdowns while racking up 863 receiving yards.

Juvon Batts led Selinsgrove in rushing a year ago as a freshman and the talented underclassman was rewarded with a second-team mention on the Class AAA squad.

Batts showed an ability to rise to the occasion in big moments, rushing for 140 yards on 19 carries in the Seals' PIAA Class AAA quarterfinal loss to Allentown Central Catholic.
