Women's Basketball: Bloomsburg falls in regional final

GLENVILLE, W. Va. — After beating a pair of ranked opponents, Bloomsburg faced a third in 25th-ranked Edinboro in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region final Monday.

The Huskies (26-5) defeated Edinboro (27-5) in their lone regular-season meeting, but the Fighting Scots lived up to their nickname the second time around, beating Bloomsburg 82-76 and denying the Huskies a trip to the Elite Eight.

After Bloomsburg led for much of the game, Edinboro clawed its way back to tie the game, taking the lead, 72-69, with 2:24 to play. Both teams traded layups before Edinboro corralled a Huskies miss and converted at the other end to push its lead to five. Catherine Noack drained a 3-pointer with 38 seconds left to cut the deficit to two, but the Huskies were unable to tie the game in the final seconds.

Noack scored 15 points in her final game in a Bloomsburg uniform while Jocelyn Ford continued to be the jack-of-all-trades for the Huskies, leading the team with 18 points while also pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out six assists.

Down the stretch, Edinboro consistently converted at the foul line, preventing a Bloomsburg comeback. The Fighting Scots made 31 of their 34 attempts at the line, including their last seven.

Bloomsburg started out of the gates hot, shooting 64 percent from the field in the first half.

Ford started the game with a layup as the Huskies scored the first six points of the game. The Huskies led for the remainder of the first half, withstanding a charge by Edinboro that cut their lead to within two possessions late in the half. In the second half, neither team was able to pull away as the margin stayed within single digits for much of the half.
