MECHANICSBURG -- There will be a silent auction tonight in the infield of the Williams Grove Speedway to benefit the family of the late Kramer Williamson. The auction will take place from approximately 5:30-8:30 p.m. A list of all the items in the auction is available at www.urcsprints.com/news.php.
The Williamson family will be on hand selling Kramer Williamson Tribute T-shirts, along with a limited number of Pink Panther T-shirts.
It's the first day of a two-day race weekend for the United Racing Company in the MACH I Chassis URC/358 sprint car challenge tonight. The 25-lap feature pays $2,200 to win.
On Saturday, URC makes its lone appearance of the 2013 season at Port Royal Speedway. Ryan Wilson won last year's 25-lap feature.
With eight races remaining in the 2013 season, JJ Grasso holds a 107-point lead over Davie Franek for the URC crown. Franek was runner-up in the point standings last year.
n TUNE-UP TIME: Selinsgrove Speedway will host a tune-up race for the super late models on Saturday in preparation for the upcoming World of Outlaws Late Model Series National Open weekend Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. This Saturday's late model racing program will feature time trials and a 30-lap main paying $2,000 to win. Also on this weekend's racing card will be a $500-to-win pro stock championship, plus the 358 sprint cars and roadrunners in late model racing this season. Jeff Rine of Danville is the leading feature winner with five victories and also the points leader. Coleby Frye of Dover has three wins, while Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove and Jim Bernheisel of Lebanon have two wins each. Single victories have gone to Jerry Bard of Shippensburg, Dan Stone of Thompson, Hayes Mattern of Beavertown, and Bryan Bernheisel of Lebanon.
n TRIFECTA: An open-wheel tripleheader is on tap Saturday at Port Royal Speedway as the 305 sprint cars will join the United Racing Company 360 sprint cars and the 410 sprint cars on the racing card. The URC portion of the show will be a combined 360-358 challenge race.
n TWO TO GO: Tonight's race at the Clinton County Raceway will be the next-to-last race of the 2013 season. The late models will be on the card this week and next with the 305 sprint cars joining the card next week.
n HERE'S JOHNNY: Former Bloomsburg resident Johnny Heydenreich captured the United States Auto Club Honda Ignite "Dirt Midget Week" points title last week in a three-race series contested in Illinois and Indiana. Heydenreich led in two of the three features and finished runner-up in all three events. He is fifth in the point standings for the Midwest Dirt region.
