Local roundup: Selinsgrove blanks Shikellamy in HAC-I field hockey

SUNBURY -- Nora Aucker scored her third goal of the season, and Lexi Horst added her second as Selinsgrove won its Heartland-I opener 3-0 over Shikellamy on Tuesday.

Geneka Mahan scored the Seals' other goal.

Keely Rodarmel made five saves in the shutout. Shikellamy keeper Jessa Houghton was credited with 10 stops, and senior back Jada Coxe played a stellar game, according to Braves coach Holly Zimmerman.

Midd-West 0

MIDDLEBURG -- Lindsey Carl's first half goal stood up in Central Columbia's win.

Midd-West (0-1) limited the Blue Jays to one second-half corner and finished with two more total (10-8) but could not get the equalizer.

n Southern Columbia 1,

Warrior Run 0

CATAWISSA -- Miranda Long's goal off a Taylor Hoffman assist with 10:20 left in the game lifted the Tigers to the HAC-II victory.

Molly VanWieren made eight stops to get the shutout for Southern (1-0). Macky Trometter also stopped eight shots for Warrior Run (0-1).

n Danville 3, Milton 1

MILTON -- Erica Tanner's second-half goal broke a 1-all tie as the Ironmen took the HAC-I win. Tanner's goal was assisted by Rachel Billig, who also scored the first goal for Danville. Milton falls to 0-2.


n Midd-West 4,

East Juniata 2

COCOLAMUS -- Janelle Arbogast scored with 11:41 remaining in the game to give the Mustangs a two-goal lead and the nonleague victory.

Kelsey Stuck, Kennedi Moyer and Hannah Stauffer tallied the other goals for Midd-West (1-1).

Minersville 1

MOUNT CARMEL -- Ali Varano helped the Red Tornadoes start on the right foot, as her foot produced all three of her team's goals in the nonleague win.

Izzy Stellar had the only assist for Mount Carmel (1-0).

WEATHERLY -- Kelsey Williams had a hat trick while Bailey Trell had a goal and four assists for the Red Raiders in the Schuylkill League win.

MCALISTERVILLE -- A hat trick by Bethany Severn also included a pair of assists as she led the Warriors' to the Allegheny Christian Athletic Association win.

JERSEY SHORE -- Madison Burrows recorded a hat trick and added two assists to lead the Lions to the ACAA win.

MCALISTERVILLE -- The Warriors got their goals from four scorers as they took the Allegheny Christian Athletic Association game.

NORTHUMBERLAND -- Despite leading in shots (13-8) and corner kicks (10-4), Sunbury Christian couldn't find the net. The Eagles were blanked by Columbia County Christian in an ACAA game.


n Shikellamy girls/Mt. Carmel boys sweep

SUNBURY -- Sisters Treicy and Yoangelys Cedeno finished 1-2 as Shikellamy's girls went 3-0 in the HAC quad meet.

The Cedenos finished in 19:42 and 20:25, respectively, for Shikellamy (3-0). Mount Carmel's Lauren Hause was third in 21:52, and Selinsgrove's Ashley Blair was fourth in 21:55.

On the boys side, Cory Hoffman won the race for Mount Carmel (3-0) in 17:09 -- just ahead of Selinsgrove's Brody Beiler (17:13) and fellow Red Tornado Nate Bartos (17:14).

n Warrior Run boys/girls win five

TURBOTVILLE -- The Defenders won all three of their boys races, plus two on the girls side to start their season on a high note.

Southern Columbia's Andrew Steely won the boys race over Warrior Run's Spencer Williamson, 17:10 to 17:28.

In the girls race, the Defenders had Lindsey Hartman finish second behind Williamsport's Hannah Weber, 21:09 to 21:52.

n Danville sweeps in both boys and girls

ALMEDIA -- Danville's boys and girls teams easily swept their way to three wins apiece in the HAC quad meet.

Tyler Vella won the boys race for Danville in 16:58, while Mackenzie Jones claimed the girls race in 20:20 for the Ironmen.

n Lewisburg boys/girls win nine of 10 races

LEWISBURG -- Blake Baylor won her race in 21:29 as the Green Dragons claimed five of the top six spots to sweep the girls meet.

Allison Graham was second for Lewisburg (5-0) in 21:30, while Mifflinburg's Sarah Lemon was third in 21:55.

MILTON -- Doubles play has been the Black Panthers' strong suit this year, and the No. 2 team of Caylee Pinchak and Taylor Wolfe beat Shannon Loftus and Natalie Smyth, 6-3, 6-4, to lead Milton to the HAC-I victory.

JERSEY SHORE -- Anya Klimitchev's 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win over Christa Beveridge at third singles completed the Bulldogs' HAC-I shutout over the Braves.

MIDDLEBURG -- With a pair of 85s carded by Asher Marks and Aidan Edmiston, Midd-West shot a combined 359 to finish tied with East Juniata in the league meet at Shade Mountain Golf Course.

Ryan Kerstetter and Eli Stem shot a 94 and 95, respectively for Midd-West. Jeremy Pannebaker shot an even-par 72 to lead East Juniata.
