---- — There will be new face, albeit a familiar one to Valley hoops fans, on the bench with long-time Susquehanna coach Frank Marcinek this season.
Marcinek brought in Don Friday as one of his assistant coaches it was announced last month.
Friday has plenty of ties to the Valley. He was an assistant coach with Pat Flannery at both Lebanon Valley and Bucknell for more than a decade and was part of Flannery's staff when they won the Division III national title in 1994.
He also has head coaching experience. Friday was the head coach at Lycoming from 2003-08 and was named the MAC coach of the Year in 2008 after leading the team to the regular-season title. He spent the last five seasons as the head coach at Division I St. Francis (Pa.), leading the Red Flash to the playoffs in both 2010 and 2011.
"It's been awesome having Don around; he is a great get for our program," said Marcinek. "He's a great guy, a great coach and we are lucky to have him. He's worked really hard with our players and I've sort of turned the defense over to him.
"We also have a guy with head coaching experience, and that doesn't happen at our level very often. He's been a welcome addition for sure."
Friday is not the only former Bucknell coach at Susquehanna now. Former BU women's coach Kathy Fedorjaka has joined Jim Reed's SU women's basketball staff this season as well.
Fedorjaka won a program record 209 games at Bucknell, with two Patriot League titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. She was a two-time Patriot League Women's Basketball Coach of the Year as well as a two-time Bucknell Coach of the Year.
