American Legion baseball: Berwick edges Line Mountain in opener

By The Daily Item

BERWICK -- All it took was one single for Berwick to break open the scoreless American Legion Suquehanna Valley Division playoff opener and advance in the winners' bracket Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory.

Line Mountain drops into the losers' bracket and travels to face the loser of the Bloomsburg/West Snyder game while Berwick gets the winner.

Jake Jones opened the fourth inning for Berwick with a leadoff walk before stealing second. Joe Favata then flew out to left field for the first out before Kyle Miller connected with a single to bring Jones home.

Austin Snyder and Kellen Masser combined on the mound for Line Mountain, giving up just six hits.

Masser, Brady Renz and catcher J.P. Lenker each went 2-for-3 in the loss.

Berwick's Eric May and Dan Curtin went 2-for-3 as well.
