High School Roundup: Bloomsburg tops Selinsgrove boys tennis


The Valley’s final undefeated boys tennis team fell Monday as Bloomsburg took a 3-2 victory over Selinsgrove in Heartland-I action.

Selinsgrove (8-1) opened the match behind straight-set wins from Rob Smith and Brady Fries at Nos. 1 and 2 singles.

Bloomsburg (7-1) got into the match when Kurtis Minster beat Theron Fravel, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, before the Panthers gained momentum with a 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles by Austin Beier and Lyle Hintz.

Montoursville 1

MONTOURSVILLE — With a singles rotation of Tyler Spinello, Nick Chamberlin and Matt Still — all getting wins — the Green Dragons upended the Warriors for the HAC-II victory.

Lewisburg (8-1) got its fourth win behind the No. 1 doubles victory of Jack Schroeder and Stuart Normington.

n Mifflinburg 5, Milton 0

MILTON — With Matt Southerton back in the No. 1 spot, the Wildcats rolled to a HAC-I win over the Black Panthers to get back over .500 for the season.

Southertown defeated Alandean Elsayed, 6-3, 6-3. Mifflinburg (5-4) won the rest of its matches in straight sets as well.

Milton falls to 1-10.

Jersey Shore 4,

Danville 1

DANVILLE — Aidan Kennedy won at No. 2 singles, but that’s all the Ironmen were able to win against the Bulldogs in the HAC-I match. Kennedy beat Derrick Palski, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 for Danville (2-6).


Midd-West 8,

Mount Carmel 6

MOUNT CARMEL — A four-run fifth inning provided the Mustangs with the boost they needed to get past the Red Tornadoes in HAC crossover action.

Despite outhitting Midd-West (6-1), 11-7, Mount Carmel couldn’t get runs when it needed them.

Jersey Shore 8,

Warrior Run 6

TURBOTVILLE — The Defenders rallied late, but they still fell a couple of runs shy of the Bulldogs in the HAC crossover game.

Hunter Stroup, Sean Morehart and Noah Showers had two hits apiece for Warrior Run (1-4), with Stroup driving in two runs for the Defenders.

Hughesville 9,

Mifflinburg 4

HUGHESVILLE — Tyler Mitcheltree and Justin Lambert both went 3-for-4 to lead the Spartans to the HAC crossover win.

Patrick Crissman batted 2-for-3 to lead Mifflinburg (0-6).
