College baseball: Bucknell splits doubleheader with Bowling Green

LAKELAND, Fla. — Racing out of the gates offensively, Bucknell won the first game of its doubleheader with Bowling Green before the Falcons turned the tables in game two to give Bucknell a split.

Joe Ogren led the Bucknell (6-8-1) offense in the first game, slapping three extra-base hits, driving home two runs and scored twice as a part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Ogren was alert on the basepaths, scoring his runs on a wild pitch in the second and racing home on a Bowling Green error in the third.

Bucknell scored two runs in each of the first three innings to take an early 6-0 lead. The Bison led by six runs before Bowlling Green was able to reach base. The Falcons (6-11) rebounded to cut the lead to 6-3 before Mike Castellani toed the rubber for the Bison and pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Brett Smith and Carter Austin each added a pair of hits for the Bison in the win, with Smith scoring twice. Smith scored the first run of the game on a double by Ogren after leading the game with a single.

The second game was a different story for the Bison, as Bowling Green defeated Bucknell, 7-0, as two Falcons combined for a no-hitter.

The Falcons scored four runs in the second inning and a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to seal the win. While the Bison did not register a hit, Bucknell was not kept off of the base paths, as Bowling Green issued three walks.
