Baseball: Warrior Run juniors win in rout over North Columbia

DANVILLE — A total of 38 runs were scored in the opening four games of the District 13 Little League Junior Division Tournament, with Warrior Run’s All-Stars responsible for 13 of them.

Warrior Run kept up its potent scoring as it beat North Columbia, 14-5, in a winners’ bracket matchup Thursday at Washies Field.

Warrior Run jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first behind a two-run double by Bryce Woland and an RBI hit by Ty Kirkner.

North Columbia came back with three runs in the second, but Warrior Run extended its lead even further with four runs in the third behind a run-producing hit by Cameron Goss.

“That was huge,” said Warrior Run manager Bill Woland. “North Columbia scored their three runs in the second, and to go up again at 8-3 was a good cushion for us.”

Both teams traded a pair of runs in the fifth inning before Warrior Run put the game away with four more runs in the sixth.

Goss, Kirkner and Dylan Zettlemoyer all had two hits apiece for Warrior Run, with Goss driving in a total of three runs and Kirkner plating in two.

On the mound, Kade Meyer worked the first five innings and got the win before he was relieved by Luke Burrows. They gave up the five runs on just five hits.

“We hit the ball well and we played good defense,” said manager Woland. “At times we pitched well, but we gave up too many walks.”

Warrior Run next plays the winner between Danville and Berwick on July 2 at 5:30 p.m.

North Columbia drops in the elimination bracket and plays the survivor of today’s game between Juniata and South Columbia on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
