Area: Young's single lifts Shik-Acorn to victory


District 13 10-11 Division

Adam Young only had one hit, but it proved to be one of the most important of the day.

Young’s 2 RBI-single in the fifth inning broke open a 9-all tie and gave Shikellamy-Acorn the go-ahead runs in the 10-11-year-old all-star  tournament over Berwick.

Shikellamy-Acorn advances in the winners’ bracket to face Southern Columbia on Wednesday at Bloomsburg.

After Shikellamy-Acorn took a 9-0 lead after three innings, Berwick responded with nine runs in the fourth and fifth to tie it up. Berwick had seven hits while Shikellamy-Acorn collected 11.

Shikellamy-Acorn was led by Duncan Weir, who went 2-for-4 with a double, 3 RBIs and scored two runs.

South Columbia 25, Danville 2 (4 inn.)

BLOOMSBURG — South Columbia got the bats working early, scoring 19 runs in the first inning to grab the victory in a District 13 10-11 Division winner’s bracket game at Bloomsburg Town Park on Saturday.

Ben Montgomery earned the win for South Columbia, adding four hits at the plate. Patrick Yost sent a ball over the fence for South Columbia as part of a 3-for-3 day.

District 13 9-10 Division

Danville 12, Milton 2 (4 inn.)

SELINSGROVE — Danville erupted for six runs in the second inning to roll to the 9-10 Division elimination bracket win at East Snyder Park on Saturday.

Carson Persing was 2-for-3 for Danville, and Blake Sassaman added a triple.
