From the third inning on, no runs were scored in the District 13 Little League Junior Division contest between Selinsgrove and Warrior Run on Monday.
Prior to that, however, Selinsgrove scored five times in the second inning and the decisive run in the third to take a 6-5 elimination-bracket victory at Washies Field.
Selinsgrove sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning to score its five runs, but it was the single run in the third that won the game despite Warrior Run tallying five runs in the third behind a three-run homer by Vincent Bender.
Kody Showers, Blaise Zeiders, Logan Leiby and Bailey Hottenstein all had two hits apiece for Selinsgrove.
“Each side had great pitching and defense for six out of the seven innings,” said Selinsgrove manager Shane Hendricks. “We had one big inning and they gave us a big inning, but nobody had any serious threats in the following innings.
“It was a good outing by both teams — with solid defense and solid pitching.”
Selinsgrove advances to the district championship game versus Berwick, which will be contested Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Selinsgrove needs to beat Berwick twice, and if needed game two will be Friday at 5:30.
