LEWISBURG -- With eight minutes gone in the opening half of play, Selinsgrove was taking the game to two-time defending Central Susquehanna Girls Lacrosse League regular-season champion Lewisburg.

Selinsgrove was hustling to the ground balls and winning the faceoffs, two key stats in winning a lacrosse game.

Alli Kahn's bounce shot that got past Lewisburg goalie Claire Paulsen at 12 minutes, 22 seconds of the first half put the Seals up 5-2.

The goal prompted Lewisburg head coach Janelle Groff to call a timeout.

The kindergarten teacher at Kelly Elementary was as calm in the huddle as she is on the sidelines and in the classroom.

Her message to her girls was clear: wake up.

The Green Dragons did just that.

Senior Ashley Bilger, who has been playing lacrosse since she was a freshman, got control of the ensuing faceoff and scored on a shot to the right corner of the goal to cut the lead to 5-3.

It was the first of her four goals on the night and the first of 12 consecutive by Lewisburg as the Green Dragons went on to win 16-6 on Tuesday afternoon.

"It looked like they were not awake and they were slow to the ball," Groff said of her message to the team in the timeout. "We were not as aggressive to the ball and Selinsgrove was winning the faceoffs."

Lewisburg (4-3, 3-0 CSGLL) closed out the first half with 5-0 run and tied the game at 5-all with 9:42 left in the half.

"We know Selinsgrove is a good team and maybe we underestimated them in the first half," Bilger said. "We got our act together and we worked hard following the timeout.

"I was just thinking that we need to get a goal," Bilger added of her goal following the timeout. She also had an assist.
