Olympics: End of a long road for Smith Puzo

LONDON — This was not the ending Keli Smith Puzo had envisioned for her long and illustrious field hockey career.

After 10 years with the national team and competing in two straight Olympic Games, the 33-year-old from Selinsgrove played her final game Friday morning. Smith Puzo and her U.S. teammates lost to Belgium 2-1 to finish dead last in the 12-team tournament.

“Despite everything and despite finishing the way we did, I think this team has worked extremely hard to be here and I’m very proud of every single member of the group and I wouldn’t have done anything different,” the oldest of Team USA’s 16 players said moments after coming off the field for the last time.
