Shikellamy’s Treicy Cedeno is only a freshman, but she doesn’t run like one.
Cedeno entered Thursday’s District 4 Class AA girls meet as the favorite, and she lived up to the billing by winning the race in a personal-best time of 18 minutes, 42 seconds — more than 40 seconds faster than the time of 19:23 she set in the Shikellamy Boosters Classic last weekend.
“I feel awesome. I can’t even believe my time,” said Cedeno. “I tried so hard and I didn’t let anything get in my way, and I got all the negative thoughts out of my mind. I was like, ‘Come on Treicy, you have to do this.’”
And just like in the league meet, Cedeno won by a large margin over runner-up Mackenzie Jones of Danville, also a freshman, who crossed the finish line in 19:24.
Cedeno’s finish also put her into some elite company in the annals of Shikellamy cross country along with former standout and state medal winner, Lindsey Scheller.
