Area roundup: Mount Carmel girls hold off Lewisburg

— LEWISBURG -- A better start to the game was all it took for the Mount Carmel girls basketball team to take a 40-37 Heartland-II victory over Lewisburg on Monday.

Mount Carmel (17-3, 12-1 HAC-II), which clinched the division title over the weekend, got 13 points apiece from Anna Raybuck and Christina Perles.

The Red Tornadoes took a 15-9 lead after one.

Lewisburg (15-6, 8-5) got 14 points and 15 rebounds from Lois Lesher, plus 13 points from Maria Kelleher, who needs just 23 more points for 1,000 in her career.

Danville 48, Jersey Shore 37

JERSEY SHORE -- Siobhan Bross and Kylie Romeo may have only scored eight points between them, but they combined to dish 13 assists as the Ironmen took the HAC-I win.

Freshman Amber Renz took care of the scoring for Danville (15-4, 9-3 HAC-I), tallying a game-high 24.

Line Mountain 46, Lancaster Co. Day 38

LANCASTER -- Sarah Lahr's 16 points and 10 more from Madison Lagerman gave the Eagles a Tri-Valley League win.

Sunbury Chr. 47, Juniata Mennonite 22

MCALISTERVILLE -- Tori Erdman had a double-double and Faith Gingrich nearly had one as the Eagles took the Allegheny Christian Athletic Association win.

Erdman scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for Sunbury Christian (19-1, 11-0 ACAA).

North. Chr. 43, Grier School 13

NORTHUMBERLAND -- Alyssa Wesner scored the points, while Jordan Carr and Calista Ulmer did the rebounding to lead the Warriors to the nonleague win.

Wesner tallied 20 points and Carr and Ulmer both pulled down nine rebounds each for the Warriors (13-9).


Danville 87, Southern Columbia 60

CATAWISSA -- Danville had four different players score in double-figures as the Ironmen eliminated Southern from playoff contention in a HAC crossover game.

Matt McConnell led the Ironmen (18-2, 13-0 HAC-I) with 18 points, while Austin Renz added 17.

Bloomsburg 54, Selinsgrove 32

SELINSGROVE -- The Panthers spread the ball around and outscored the Seals 24-7 in the second quarter to run away for the HAC crossover win. Bob Lamont paced Selinsgrove (7-14) with 10 points.

Midd-West 72, Warrior Run 55

TURBOTVILLE -- Three double-digit scorers, led by Colton Keister's 26 points, led the Mustangs to the HAC crossover win.

Zack Miller scored 18 points to lead Warrior Run (2-18).

Lourdes Regional 47, Mount Carmel 37

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Nineteen points from Matt Savitski and 10 from Anthony Pennypacker helped lead the Red Raiders to the nonleague win. Michael Menapace added nine points and six rebounds for Lourdes (17-5).

East Juniata 53, Millersburg 47

MILLERSBURG -- Nick Lorenz's game-high 31 points lifted the Tigers to the Tri-Valley League win. Bailey Coder added 14 points for East Juniata (17-4, 12-3 TVL).

Line Mountain 42, Lancaster Co. Day 37

LANCASTER -- Behind Cole Rickert's 11 points, eight rebounds and six steals, the Eagles (12-7, 10-3) took the TVL win.

Meadowbrook Chr. 68, Maranatha Christian 38

MILTON -- Curtis Klodnicki had 17 points as the Lions took the nonleague win. Tyler Baughman added 11 points for Meadowbrook (13-7).

Juniata Mennonite 34, Sunbury Christian 19

MCALISTERVILLE -- The Eagles were held to without a point in both the first and third quarters and fell in the ACAA matchup. Sunbury Christian, which got five points and nine rebounds from Ashton Bartlett, moves to 10-14, 6-7 in league play.
