HALIFAX -- The path to the District 3 Class A championship game for Greenwood may have been very different from a year ago, but the end result was exactly the same.
The Wildcats got a couple of much-needed hits from Chelsea Hicks and Amy Heggenstaller to beat the Millersburg Indians, 13-3 in five innings, and claim the title at Halifax High School on Wednesday.
Greenwood (8-11) repeats as District 3 champion. Last year the Wildcats took the title with a 14-5 record.
Next up for Greenwood is a game versus the District 5 champ, either Hope For Hyndman or Conemaugh Township, in the first round of the PIAA playoffs. That game is Monday at a site and time to be determined.
Greenwood trailed Millersburg (11-7) until Hicks hit a bases-loaded triple in the third inning that resulted in a 4-3 lead for the Wildcats, who would later put the game away in the fifth behind a bases-loaded triple from Heggenstaller.
Hicks finished the game going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Heggenstaller went 2-for-4 and also had three RBIs and three runs scored.
"Hicks' triple in the third was a big play there," said Greenwood coach TJ Gantt. "We had some timely hits, with a well-pitched game and a solid backing by the defense."
Pitcher Brooke Louden got the complete-game win for Greenwood. She struck out five, walked one and gave up three runs off four hits.
