EVERETT -- With a three-run lead in the top of the seventh inning, Greenwood was only three outs away from beating Hyndman Charter School in Monday's PIAA Class A first-round matchup.
The District 5 champion Hornets had other plans as they scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 6-5 victory at Everett High School.
District 3 champ Greenwood (8-12) strung together three consecutive singles to score their three runs in the top of the seventh.
Amy Heggenstaller had the big hit in the inning with a two-run single that plated Katie Osborne and Brittany Fleisher.
Hyndman strung together five hits in the bottom half of the seventh to plate its four runs.
"In general, I thought it was a well-played game on both sides," said Greenwood coach TJ Gantt. "We had contributions up and down the lineup, but we came out on the short end."
Osborne, Fleisher and Heggenstaller all had two hits apiece for the Wildcats.
n Selinsgrove 6,
SELINSGROVE -- Justin Keiser pitched four innings and drove in a pair of key runs to lead Selinsgrove to the Susquehanna Valley League win.
Keiser, who worked four innings before being relieved by Ryan Wagner in the fifth, struck out six and allowed just one hit.
At the plate Keiser went 2-for-4 and hit RBI singles in both the first and fourth innings, the latter helped Selinsgrove (1-0) open up a 5-0 lead.
Tyler Cook added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored for Selinsgrove, which plays at Midd-West on Wednesday.
n Watsontown 3,
WATSONTOWN -- Mifflinburg scored twice in the seventh inning, but the comeback fell short as Watsontown took the West Branch win.
Watsontown (1-0) took a 3-0 lead on Connor Pelletier's RBI single in the fifth and an unearned run in the sixth.
Mifflinburg (0-1) made the game close in the seventh on a two-run single by Dakota Noll.
