PORT ROYAL -- Port Royal Speedway will host a daytime fair classic when it present the 62nd version of the Labor Day Classic for 410 sprints on Monday afternoon at 2.

The ARDC Midgets will join the sprint cars for a open-wheel doubleheader as part of the 159th annual Juniata County Fair.

The sprint cars will vie for a $4,000 pay day.

It will be the third show of the season at Port Royal for ARDC. The first two shows were won by Steve Buckwalter and Bruce Buckwalter Jr.

The first Labor Day Classic was held in 1952 when Earl Bryner took the win.

No driver has been more successful in the Labor Day Classic for the 410 sprint car than veteran Todd Shaffer, who owns six victories in the prestigious race.

Shaffer's first win came in his own sprint car in 1987. He won back-to-back Classics in 1990 and 1991. He then returned for wins in the Beam No. 88 in 1995, 2004 and in 2008.

Following Shaffer on the Labor Day win list is Lynn Paxton who not only won five times in his career but did it back-to-back from 1976 through 1980.

Don Kreitz Jr. also owns five Labor Day wins, coming in 1986, 1992, 1993, 1998 and in 2001.

Mike Wagner was declared the 2011 Labor Day winner. Wagner got the title after the race was rained out and officials averaged all drivers' fair week race finishes with the lowest average getting the crown.

Daryn Pittman won the race in 2010. Greg Hodnett is the defending winner.

n TWICE THE FUN: Williams Grove Speedway will be in action twice during the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend.

Tonight, the track will honor the late Jack Gunn with the running of the 31st annual Jack Gunn Memorial for the 410 sprints. The 30-lap feature pays $6,000 to the win.
