American Legion roundup: Berwick holds off Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE — Berwick stymied Selinsgrove’s bats as the visitors took a 3-1 victory in a Susquehanna Valley League American Legion game Monday.

The lone run for Selinsgove (1-1) was scored in the sixth off an Isaiah Rapp RBI double.

Runs and hits were hard to come by as both teams were held to a total of four runs and four hits apiece.

Selinsgrove next hosts Juniata County on Wednesday.

Hughesville 2,

Jerey Shore 1

JERSEY SHORE — Jason Stroup’s bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning gave Hughesville a much-needed insurance run in the West Branch League win.

Sean Poust drove in the other run for Hughesville (1-0) with a single in the second inning.

Eric Huling and Boone Costa both went 2-for-2 to lead Jersey Shore (0-1).

Hughesville, which got a complete-game win from Justin Lambert (80 pitches, 2Ks, 1BB) next hosts Lewisburg on Wednesday.

Milton 6,

Lewisburg 0

MILTON — A 77-pitch no-hit gem thrown by Mark Artley lifted Milton’s Legion team to the West Branch Division season-opening win.

Despite not throwing since the District 4 Class AAA final versus Jersey Shore more than two weeks ago, Artley would strike out 10, including eight out of the final nine batters he faced to get the no-hitter.

Jeff Levitan paced Milton’s offense by getting two hits, including a two-run single early in the game. Damian Moyer added a two-run single for Milton.

Lewisburg (1-1) starting pitcher, veteran Joey Gardner, left the game in the second inning with an apparent back injury.
