BASEBALL
MIDDLEBURG -- James McCloskey and Jose Andino combined to score Midd-West's tying and game-winning runs, as the Mustangs took a 5-4 Tri-Valley League victory over Line Mountain Tuesday and qualified for the District 4 playoffs.
McCloskey had the RBI singles that plated Andino with the tying run in the fifth inning, and later the winning run in the seventh.
Andino finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and McCloskey went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for Midd-West (10-7, 8-7 TVL).
Adam Menko went 4-for-4 to lead Line Mountain.
Upper Dauphin 11, East Juniata 0 (5 innings)
ELIZABETHVILLE -- The return of catcher Jeremy Weaver propelled the Trojans to the TVL victory.
Weaver, who came back after suffering an ankle injury, was able to catch the first four innings and relieve pitcher Zach Markel in the fifth and followed to strike out the side.
Weaver and Markel combined to retire nine batters in five innings for Upper Dauphin (10-6, 9-4 TVL).
Southern Columbia 8, Sullivan County 2
LAPORTE -- Tim Benner pitched a complete game for the Tigers en route to the Mid-Penn Conference win. Benner struck out 13 batters and walked two. He also hit an RBI single in the game for Southern (12-5 overall and MPC).
SOFTBALL
n Upper Dauphin 11, East Juniata 0
COCOLAMUS -- Brooke Snyder and Krysten Ligon each had three hits to lead the Trojans to the win and the Tri-Valley League championship.
Snyder went 3-for-5 and scored three runs. Ligon went 3-for-3, scored four times and she also struck out 11 and allowed just three hits to lead Upper Dauphin (15-2, 13-0 TVL).
