High school roundup: Shikellamy softball clinches District 4 playoff berth

SOFTBALL
MONTOURSVILLE -- On the last day of the regular season, Shikellamy produced a 5-1 victory over Montoursville in Susquehanna Valley League action Thursday to give the Braves a berth in the District 4 Class AAA playoffs next week.
"I'm very happy all the way around. I'm happy to be in the playoffs," said Shikellamy coach Dianne Miller, whose team faces Milton in the first round of the playoffs.
Shikellamy (10-10 overall and SVL) scored twice in the first on a fielder's choice by Samantha Davis and a passed ball. The Braves put the game away in the fifth with two more runs. Brianne Jenkins scored on a passed ball and Davis scored on Katie Benner's single.
Montoursville falls to 12-6, 11-6.
Milton 3, Warrior Run 0
MILTON -- Jennalee Williams drove in two of the Black Panthers' three runs, leading them to the SVL victory.
Williams finished 2-for-3 and Nicole Smith pitched a complete-game one-hitter and doubled for Milton (19-0, 17-0 SVL).
Warriror Run is 8-11, 7-11.
Jersey Shore 4, Line Mountain 1
MANDATA -- The Bulldogs scored two runs in the second and third innings to send the Eagles to their 19th loss without a win.
Line Mountain falls to 0-18 in the SVL.
Nativity 12, Lourdes Reg. 2 (5 inn.)
POTTSVILLE -- Kelli Martz's two-run home run in the fifth inning highlighted the game for the Red Raiders, who fell in their Schuylkill League season finale.
BASEBALL
Shikellamy 4, Milton 3
MILTON -- Ben Shoch's diving, game-saving catch with two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh inning preserved the Braves' Susquehanna Valley League victory.
Trailing by a run entering the seventh, Milton (2-15 overall and SVL) loaded the bases on singles by Brad Balliet and Gerry Runyan plus an intentional walk to Raymonde Adames. Travis Reich hit a shot to deep right field, but Shoch managed to make the diving catch near the fence.
Shikellamy (13-6, 13-6) scored all of its runs in the first two innings. Shoch hit a two-out, two-run single in the first, while Chuck Schlegel hit an RBI double and Bronze Luden added an RBI single in the second.
Schlegel finished with the complete-game victory. He had 13 strikeouts and three walks, two of them intentional.
Lewisburg 6, Central Columbia 5
LEWISBURG -- Kyle Ranck's RBI single in the fifth inning broke a 5-all tie and gave the Green Dragons the SVL win.
Ranck, who drove in two runs, including on a groundout in the first, also picked up the complete-game victory for Lewisburg (3-15 overall and SVL).
Elliott Goff added a two-run single and Anthony Cooper had an RBI single in the four-run first inning for Lewisburg.
Jersey Shore 10, Warrior Run 0
JERSEY SHORE -- Derek Smith's walk-off, solo home run in the fifth inning ended the game early for the Bulldogs in the SVL win.
Smith finished 3-for-4 and Lance White went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer in the fourth for Jersey Shore (16-3 overall and SVL).
Warrior Run is 1-18, 1-18.
Loyalsock 5, Midd-West 2
MIDDLEBURG -- The Mustangs ended the regular season on a down note, as the Lancers took the non-league victory.
James McCloskey hit an RBI single and walked twice to lead Midd-West (11-9), which will be in the District 4 playoffs next week.
Loyalsock improves to 15-4.
Southern Columbia 13, Benton 2 (5 innings)
CATAWISSA -- Trevor Behrent's two-run triple in the first inning and Aaron Barnes' two-run home run in the second led to 12 runs as the Tigers took the Mid-Penn Conference win.
Barnes finished 2-for-2 with a triple, while Tim Benner went 3-for-3 with a double and triple to lead Southern (14-5 overall and MPC).
Nativity BVM 9, Lourdes Regional 3
COAL TOWNSHIP -- A seven-run third inning broke the game open for the Hilltoppers, giving them the Schuylkill League win.
