TOWANDA -- Although the final stats might suggest otherwise, Selinsgrove's trip up to the Northern Tier on Tuesday was successful.
Kyle Bennar, Griffin Kelly, Andrew Pomykalski and Kaelan Sullivan all found the back of the net to lead Selinsgrove to a 4-0 victory over Athens in the semifinals of the District 4 Class AA playoffs at Towanda High School.
Bennar and Kelly scored their goals in the first half to get fifth-seeded Selinsgrove (11-8-1) off to a good start. Bennar also assisted on Kelly's goal.
"We came out very crisp and very sharp. Overall, we played very well," said Selinsgrove coach Chris Lupolt.
The Seals, who trailed in shots 9-8 and corners 3-1, put the game away in the second half thanks to Pomykalski and Sullivan. Dylan Seebold assisted on Sullivan's goal.
Goalkeepers Tristan Conrad and Josh Moyer combined to make eight saves to get the clean sheet on Athens (16-2).
"It was good fundamental soccer and it was a good team effort. It was nice to find the back of the net," said Lupolt. "We also played a great defensive game, and it was fun playing on the turf at Towanda."
