Area roundup: Milton wins rumble in 'The Jungle'

BOYS BASKETBALL

MILTON — With both Milton and Mifflinburg at or near the .500 mark, the Heartland-I matchup on Friday was a crucial one.

The Black Panthers won the rumble in “The Jungle” by holding off the Wildcats’ second-half rally for a 50-47 victory.

Michael Jacobs scored 16 points and Chad Diggan had 12 for Milton (5-4, 2-1 HAC-I).

Mifflinburg (4-4, 0-3) out-scored Milton 26-23 in the second half to fall short of its comeback. Seth Derk led the Wildcats with 11 points.



Lewisburg 52, Montoursville 27

MONTOURSVILLE — The Green Dragons held the Warriors to just 13 first-half points and it resulted in the HAC-II victory.

Travis Conrad and Mike Driscoll both scored 14 points and Erich Kline led Lewisburg (8-0, 3-0 HAC-II) with 10 rebounds.

“I was just pleased with our defensive effort. I thought we did a very good job playing team defense and contesting shots,” said Lewisburg coach John Vaji.

Montoursville falls to 2-8, 2-1.



Danville 70, Shamokin 53

DANVILLE — A 19-point performanc from Bret Berg and 17 points from Zach Kozick helped lift the Ironmen to a HAC-I win over the Indians.

Austin Renz added 11 points for Danville. Shamokin was led by Austin Stine’s 17 points.

The Ironmen used a 22-point third quarter to help distance itself against the Indians.



Central Columbia 56, Warrior Run 44

TURBOTVILLE — A game-high 23 points from Dylan Hine lifted the Blue Jays to the HAC-II win.

Zack Miller tallied 13 points and Collin Foresman added 12 for Warrior Run (1-6, 0-3 HAC-II).



Jersey Shore 62, Midd-West 35

MIDDLEBURG — The Bulldogs spread the ball around as nine players scored in the HAC-I win over the Mustangs.

Kahill Brooker and Dyllan Folk scored nine and eight points, respectively, for Midd-West (2-5, 0-3 HAC-I).



Greenwood 70, Lancaster Country Day 18

LANCASTER — Josh Ferguson scored a game-high 21 points, while Ryan Kerstetter and Adam Harrison added 12 and 11, respectively, in Greenwood’s rout.

The Wildcats (9-2, 5-0 Tri-Valley League) build a 16-point lead in the first quarter and blanked TVL newcomer Lancaster Country Day in the fourth.



Williams Valley 55, Lourdes Regional 51

TOWER CITY — The Vikings took the lead by out-scoring the Red Raiders 32-17 in the second and third quarters to take the Schuylkill League win.

Zack Oquendo had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Anthony Pennypacker scored 14 points and had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for Lourdes (8-2).



Canaan Christian 55, Meadowbrook Chr. 50

MILTON — Thirteen points apiece from David Showers and Tyler Baughman weren’t enough as the Lions fell in the nonleague game. Meadowbrook moves to 3-5 overall.



GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lewisburg 48, Central Columbia 35


ALMEDIA — Maria Kelleher led the offense and Lois Lesher led the defense for the Green Dragons in the HAC-II win.

Kelleher scored a game-high 22 points for Lewisburg (5-2, 2-1 HAC-II), while Lesher grabbed eight rebounds and blocked six shots.



Halifax 47, Upper Dauphin 43

HALIFAX —The Wildcats out-scored the Trojans 21-13 in the final quarter to pull out the Tri-Valley League win.

Kylie Sorichetti tallied 10 of her 12 points in the fourth and she pulled down 12 rebounds, while Brianna Custer scored 14 points for Halifax (5-3, 5-0 TVL).

Katie Schwenk led Upper Dauphin (5-5, 4-2) with 18 points.



Sunbury Christian 77, Centre County Chr. 13

NORTHUMBERLAND — The Eagles jumped out to a 27-point lead after the first quarter to cruise to the ACAA victory.

Abby Daddario led Sunbury Christian (9-1, 5-0 ACAA) with 20 points, while Tiffany Billings scored 15 points, Torri Erdman had 14 points and 12 rebounds plus Brandy Schroth chipped in 10 rebounds.



Canaan Christian 46, Meadowbrook Chr. 26

MILTON — The Lions trailed by 15 points at the half as they fell in the nonleague game. Mary Adams scored 12 points to lead Meadowbrook (2-4).



Greenwood 34, Lancaster Co. Day 30

LANCASTER — Mallory Fortenbaugh had 18 points in the Wildcats’ TVL win. Greenwood improves to 1-9, 1-5 in league play.



BOWLING

Milton’s boys/girls sweep


MILTON — Led by a 673 series from Colby Reichenbach and a 645 from Mark Artley, the Black Panthers’ boys team rolled to a 4-0 HAC victory over Mifflinburg.

Reichenbach had games of 224, 232 and 217, while Artley had a high game of 235 as Milton totaled 3,066 pins.

On the girls side, Milton also won 4-0 behind a 566 series from Halie Snyder. All five bowlers for the Black Panthers had a 500 series or better.

For Mifflinburg, Austin Miller rolled a 692 series and Brianna Hollenbach had a 609.



WRESTLING

Lewisburg 60, Wellsboro 15


WELLSBORO — The Green Dragons picked up seven pins en route to the nonleague victory. Getting the falls for Lewisburg were Brian Friery (113), Dante Taylor (120), Logan Aikey (145), Max Reed (160), Nicholas Bernstein (170), Brandon Smith (220) and Kyle Santorine (285).
