SELINSGROVE -- The second annual Roadrunner 20 championship event will highlight a four-division racing card at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night.
In its seventh year at the track, the roadrunner division will be featured in a 20-lap championship event paying $200 to win. The format includes an increased purse for all 24 starting positions, time trials, B-main and the A-Main.
The 358 sprint cars, late models and pro stocks will also be on the card which starts at 6.
Ray Rothfuss of Muncy won last year's inaugural Roadrunner 20 event. In three roadrunner races in 2008, Keith Bissinger of Orangeville has two feature wins while Ricky Bender of Jolliett won the other race.
With his win in last week's 358 sprint car division, Pat Cannon of Etters has taken over the points lead. Dave Calaman, of Carlisle, and Blane Heimbach, of Selinsgrove, are second and third, respectively, in the point standings.
Dustin Hoffman of Evandale leads the late model division points while A.J. Stroup of McAlisterville lead the pro stock division.
HONORING MR. HUGHES: Williams Grove Speedway will honor its late track promoter with a moment of silence before the start of racing on tonight. Other remembrances for Morgan Hughes, who died Saturday, will take place but as of press time no final plans had been made.
HISTORY MAKER: Dave Calaman of Carlisle has another opportunity to get his name into the Williams Grove Speedway record books in an unusual category tonight.
Calaman, who owns five victories in the super sportsman division and one sprint car triumph, has never won in a 358 sprint car feature at the Grove.
The 358s are on the card for the first time since March 21 when Calaman was poised to become the first driver to win in all three open wheel divisions that compete regularly at Williams Grove Speedway. Instead, the honor went to Pat Cannon who passed Calaman in turn four on the white flag lap.
If Calaman wins tonight, he would be only the second driver to win in all three divisions.
The Grove has featured 358 sprint cars since 1989, the super sportsman since 1981 and super sprint car racing since 1939.
HOOSIER POWER: Clinton County Raceway will have a tire rule for sprint cars in 2008.
Clinton County Raceway promoter Vern Wasson had originally intended to have an open tire rule, but after discussions with racers and tire manufacturers has decided that in the best interest of all racers and the speedway that the Hoosier Spec Tire rule for sprint cars will be used.
All other classes will still be able to use the tire manufacturer of their choice.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Super Sportsman tour rolls into Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night for the first of three tour races at the speedway in 2008.
They'll join the sprint cars, late models and pro stocks on the racing card. Frankie Herr is the current super sportsman tour points leader.
ENDURO TIME: Big Diamond Raceway will host its first Enduro for the 2008 season on Sunday afternoon. Inspection begins at 1:30 p.m. with the grandstand opening at 3 p.m. and the first race is slated to start at 5 p.m. Grandstand admission for the event is only $5.
The other five race dates for the series are May 11, June 15, July 13, Aug. 17 and Sept. 14.
TEST AND TUNE: Susquehanna Speedway Park will host several Wednesday night test and tune sessions for any division during the 2008 season.
The dates are April 30, May 7, May 28, June 11, June 25, July 23, Aug. 6, Aug. 20 and Sept. 3.
