— Were you like me and very skeptical this winter when news came out that the brutal weather, deep snows and nearly-record cold had killed off the stink bug population?
Turns out that our skepticism was well-placed. Penn State researchers based in Biglerville (near Gettysburg) are reporting that stink bugs could be "the worst ever this coming summer.”
These researchers stated that half of the entire population of stink bugs dies off every winter. Since there were so many stick bugs around last summer, it’s probable that some observers thought that they were dying in huge numbers this past winter.
But, you do the math. The more stink bugs alive means that eventually there will be more stink bugs dead. Stink bugs are definitely not gone and certainly not extinct.
At least we have plenty of company because stink bugs have now been found in 40 other states.
