Talking Points: New split deer season added in two WMUs

— When the Board of Game Commissioners adopted the upcoming slate of deer seasons they established a new split, five-day antlered deer season in two Wildlife Management Units (WMUs).

One of these units, WMU 4C is in our Valley and includes portions of upper Dauphin County, southern Columbia County and nearly all of Schuylkill County.

This means that deer hunters in the entire greater Susquehanna Valley will follow a split season from December 1-5 by taking antlered deer only and then a seven-day concurrent season from December 6-13.

The concept behind the split season is to preserve more antlerless deer thereby increasing deer numbers in those WMUs.
