Salamanders reunite for special tour

MOORESBURG — Proclaiming 2009 the “Year of The Salamanders,” the reunited 1960’s rock trio The Salamanders has announced tour dates for the upcoming year.

The 2009 Back From Extinction Tour will kick off Feb. 14 with a “Salantine’s Day” party and dance in Mooresburg. The event featuring fun, food, prizes and more, will be held at the Liberty Township Firehall, Mooresburg Road, Mooresburg, beginning at 8 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Mooresburg Community Days. The community days and The Salamanders are jointly sponsoring the event.

Other entertainment that night will include a comedian and other acts.

Six dates are scheduled for the 2009 Back From Extinction Tour so far, with negotiations underway for more appearances. Included on the calender are shows in Virginia in June and at the Montour-Delong Fair in Washingtonville during August. The 2009 Back From Extinction Tour is tentatively scheduled to wrap-up in October with a “Salaween Party” in Mooresburg.

More information about the 2009 ‘Back From Extinction’ Tour is available on the trio’s new Web site, http://TheSalamanders.net. The site also contains information on scheduling an appearance.

The band, whose members all hail from Mooresburg, reunited last year after 40 years. The group played festivals, carnivals, sock hops and other community venues in the late 60s and early 70s. The Salamanders’ repertoire includes garage-style Beatles, ‘Stones, CCR and other cover and original tunes.

Salamander Rod Bower, keyboardist, is an elementary school teacher near Alexandria, Va. Barry Bower, guitarist, is a recently retired social services professional living in Mooresburg. Drummer Mc Kessler is a hospital CEO in Manhattan.

Mooresburg is along Route 642 west of Danville and east of Milton.
