High school musicians may audition for institute

SELINSGROVE -- Susquehanna University will host more than 50 gifted high school woodwind, brass and percussion players by audition for the Wind Ensemble Institute this summer.

The week-long residential experience from June 22-28 will focus on chamber music and symphonic wind ensemble performance. Students will work with Director of Bands Eric L. Hinton and will study with and be coached by Susquehanna University faculty members.

All high school students entering grades 9-12 as of September are eligible to apply.

Students may audition on flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn trombone, euphonium, tuba or percussion. Percussionists must audition on two of the following: timpani, snare drum or mallet percussion.

Fees for the Wind Ensemble Institute are $515 and include tuition, room and board. Need- and merit-based scholarships are available.

Visit http://www.susqu.edu/music for application and audition materials. The application should be returned to Hinton with a recording of the audition material on a cassette or CD by May 15.

For additional information, contact Hinton at 372-4296 or hinton@susqu.edu.
