So I was off on vacation last week, and you might have thought I’d be out listening to live music. But I only got out twice all week. There was just too much excitement at my house, and by the time the evening rolled around, I was too tired to go out and about. Okay, we did hear Fieldstone in Riverside on Tuesday and Catman Stu at Front Street Station on Friday, but there were plenty of other opportunities that we missed. We were out of town Wednesday and Thursday, so we have that as an excuse.

I’m told the Bluesmoon show on the Shikellamy Overlook Thursday night attracted about 200 people. That’s great, and the overlook is a great spot for live music on a summer evening. Next month, on Aug. 14, the Blind Chitlin Kahunas will have a show up there from 7-8:30 p.m.

Now, for music coming up this week. Tonight, Don Shappelle is at Milton’s Lincoln Park from 6:30-8 p.m. Don’s a great entertainer, singing railroad and canal and river songs, and he tells great stories. Take a lawn chair to Broadway at Front Street, and be sure to check out the Art in the Park program while you’re there.

Daddy McFatty’s in Northumberland will feature A Farewell Rescue on Friday night at 10, and Jeremy Hummel and Bret Alexander will be down the street at Front Street Station, on the terrace from 7-10 p.m. In Lewisburg, Will the Fiddler Kradlak will be at Puirciel’s Irish Pub on Sixth Street from 7-10 p.m. The McClure Pot-Pie Festival will feature Timothy’s Burden at 7 p.m., along with — you guessed it — pot pie.

Saturday night, SST (Stu Shrawder, Bill Stetz and Mark Tomeo) will be at Front Street Station in Northumberland from 7-10. In Sunbury, the Bonkers are at the Peppermint at 700 Market St. with rock and roll from the 60s through the present. There is a $2 cover for the 6:30-9 p.m. show. Harrisburg-based Asking Andy is at Daddy McFatty’s in Northumberland at 10 p.m.

The first Hop Vines and Wines in the Grove beer and wine tasting festival will take place in Selinsgrove from 2-6 p.m. Saturday. In addition to beer and wine, the festival will feature music by the Burgess-Mitchell-Seal Trio from 2-4 p.m. and by Black n’ Blues from 4-6 p.m. Advance tickets are a must and can be had locally at the Country Squire, Beverley’s and J. Kleinbauers.

If drum and bugle corps music is your thing, be sure to check out the Cavalcade of Champions drum and bugle competition at Christy Mathewson Stadium on the Bucknell Campus in Lewisburg at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Kimbo and Frank will be at Skeeter’s BBQ on the hill above Tedd’s Landing from 5-8 p.m.

Tuesday, Gift Troutman and Gift are the entertainment at Pumphouse Park in Selinsgrove from 6:30-8 p.m.
