BLOOMSBURG — Printmaking, woodwork, woodturning and quilting will be the focus of four new members of Artspace Gallery whose exhibit opens today and continues through Aug. 24. A reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. July 19 in the gallery at 221 Center St.

Marilyn Paul, of Northumberland, is the printmaker who received her bachelor’s degree in art education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her master’s in art studio from Bloomsburg University. She taught art at Milton Senior High School for 32 years. Her artwork has been selected for juried shows, both group and solo. She creates limited-edition original hand-pulled prints on her own press using numerous printing techniques within each work. Natural textures, narrative scenarios and cultural images inspire her.

Robert Fridley, of Riverside, has been working with wood 20 years. For the last seven months, he has concentrated on making wood boxes reflecting the inspiration and skill given him by his parents. His mother loved boxes and his father taught him woodworking and metal skills, especially copper. His clean-line boxes are an inlaid combination of woods contrasting and working well together. Each box features a copper heart of a copper hinge.

Quattro — four women from Elysburg and Bloomsburg — began collaborating in 2006 to make small quilts and throws. They usually gather weekly to plan, cut, sew and take work home with them. They are potter Sandy Lentz, basket-maker-turned-university-administrator Jean Downing, retired art teacher Nancy Gale and retired reporter Louise Sweeney. They make quilts, bags and other creations.

Michael Silver of Berwick does segmented woodturning involving gluing various pieces of wood together to form a large block that is turned on a lathe to form a vessel. He continues to explore new forms by varying ways the block is assembled in combination with different shapes.

Their artwork can be seen during gallery hours Thursday, Friday and Saturday noon to 8 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
