SUNBURY — “A Little Bit O’ Horror” is the theme of the second annual Halloween event at the YMCA Arts Center, 35 S. Fifth St., on Saturday at 8 p.m.
The program includes a presentation by Jeffrey Martin, a lecturer at Susquehanna University, who will discuss vampire films and a showing of “dark arts” by area artists.
“It’s a fun thing to do on Halloween,” said Martin.
Martin said he will discuss the evolution of vampire movies from the silent film “Nosferatu,” the first of the genre, to the present day. His discussion will be illustrated with film clips from memorable films, behind-the-scenes details and stories of some of the most beloved of the classic creepy films.
Martin’s presentation will be followed by a screening of “Phobia,” a 25-minute horror film by Joseph Thompson, a local resident who makes films in Detroit and works as a tattoo artist.
Prior to the program, an exhibit of dark arts, featuring works by several area artists, including Jody and Cheryl Fallon, Lisa Stahl and Jeff Martin, will be on display from 7-8 p.m.
“I’m not sure how this is going to work out,” said Mary Jo Tavares, director of the art center. “The place will be dimly lit with red lights and lots of candles. Maybe we’ll have to give visitors flashlights to see the art.”
The art show and reception are free. However, tickets for the lecture and film must be purchased in advance. Tickets are $12, which includes the program and refreshments. Call 286-0818 to reserve a seat.
