Special treat at Skeeter’s
Skeeter’s BBQ, on the hill above Tedd’s Landing in Shamokin Dam, has been offering live music to its patrons every other Sunday for some time now, and this Sunday, a special treat is in store. The Doug McMinn Jazz Trio will be there from 5-8 p.m. This Williamsport-area trio, fronted by the multi-talented McMinn, has several regular gigs up the river but hasn’t performed in the Valley very often. In fact, I can’t recall having heard them. But anytime you can hear Doug, you can bet it will be entertaining. I just made a list, and Doug leads or is part of four bands in distinctly different musical genres, plus a solo gig and song-writing and arranging. There aren’t any people in the region who could work five nights a week, each night with a different band.

Friday night, Sunbury’s singing mailman Jim McLinsky will be at McGuigan’s Public House, 266 Market St., Sunbury, from 6-8 p.m., and Ed and Kim Rhoades will be at Brews n Bytes, Lower Mulberry Street in Danville, with some nice classic rock and blues tunes, at 6:30.

Here’s something totally different for Friday night and/or Saturday. The 15th annual Pennsylvania Drum Show and Sale, sponsored by Sunbury’s Lawton Drum Co., starts off with the traditional Friday night drum jam, and the drum show and sale Saturday. Both will be held at the Selinsgrove VFW on Route 522 in Selinsgrove. The drum jam will start at 8:00 p.m. with Steve Adams on piano and Chris Wheeland on bass. The jam is always fun as drum enthusiasts show their chops with a live band.
The drum show for Saturday runs from 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Russ Lease will be back again with his display of Beatles items, including The Ed Sullivan Show Beatles Bass Drum Head and much more.

Saturday night, Greg Burgess and Beverley Conrad will be together at Penn’s Tavern, Route 147 south of Sunbury, from 6-9 p.m. It’s Halloween, and Penn’s Tavern is purported to have a resident ghost. Enter if you dare! Call 286-2007 for reservations.

In Lewisburg, the Folk Justice Band will provide the entertainment, or at least some of it, for a fund-raiser for the Union County Chapter of the American Red Cross on Halloween. They’ll be at the Parkview Ballroom, 17 S. Sixth St., from 8 p.m.- midnight. Call 524-0400 for information and tickets.

And the 15th annual Halloween party at Ye Olde Meeting Place, Route 405 north of Milton, features Bryce Canyon for listening and dancing at 9:30. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be prizes for those judged the best.

One more thing while I’m thinking about it. The Campus Theater in Lewisburg will show the famous “Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Friday night, Oct. 30, at 11 p.m. Doors open at 10, and costumes and props are encouraged. Halloween fun!
