Author to give reading

LEWISBURG — Rebecca Black will give the Eighth Annual Drew Darrow Memorial Reading at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 in Bucknell Hall at Bucknell University.

The reading, which is open to the public, is co-sponsored by the Writing Center and the Stadler Center for Poetry, with support from Drew Darrow’s family and friends. A reception and book signing will follow the reading.

Poet and writer Black is the author of “Cottonlandia,” winner of the Juniper Prize in Poetry from the University of Massachusetts Press. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, Virginia Quarterly Review, Missouri Review, Conjunctions, Poetry Daily and elsewhere.

Black has received residencies from Ledig House/Art Omi and the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris. She has been an invited panelist at the Southern Women Writers’ conference, the Tennessee Williams Literary Festival and the Associated Writing Programs conference, where presentations and readings have included the topics “Southern Expatriate Writers,” “Poetry and Politics” and “The Land as Home: A Reading.”

A native of Albany, Ga., Black received a master’s of fine arts degree from Indiana University and was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University. She is director of creative writing at Santa Clara University in California.

The Drew Darrow Memorial Reading Series honors the memory of Drew Darrow, a 1986 Bucknell graduate. A student employee of Bucknell’s Writing Center, Darrow later worked as an actor in New York City. He died in 1997.
