LEWISBURG — The Stroll Through the Arts Weekend features 40 artists displaying their works in businesses along the six blocks of downtown Market Street on Friday evening and “Dance to the Music” Saturday evening.
Among the featured artists is David Seybold, who is displaying a 10-year retrospective of his work since moving to Lewisburg in 1999.
The exhibit is at the Packwood House Museum, 15 N. Water St., through Saturday. There will be a public reception for him from 6-9 p.m. Friday.
The exhibit includes some of his original oil paintings produced in his Beck Street studio. More than 50 originals are included, most loaned from private collections. For more information, visit www.davidseybold.com or www.packwoodhousemuseum.com, or call 524-0323.
Another featured artist is Susan Ball Faeder, who will display 100 photos taken during a five-day journey last January to Okinawa. The “Okinawa 2009 — A Culture Preserved” exhibit will be set up in Faeder’s shop, The Beckoning Cat — Treasures of Japan, 209 Market St.
The images are set to music in a digital slide show format, and include portraits of the Okinawan people, local food, indigenous textiles along with the extraordinary landscape and the ruins. Faeder has been traveling to Japan for nearly 40 years, ever since her first experience living there as a Williamsport High School exchange student in 1970.
Dance to the Music
The Stroll Through the Arts Weekend caps off with the third annual Dance to the Music, with five bands in five venues in downtown Lewisburg, on Saturday, from 7 p.m. to at least midnight. From vocal jazz to rock to blues, all the band performances are free and open to the public.
n Folk Justice Band at the Temperance House, 50 N. Second St., from 7-10 p.m. Featuring an eclectic variety of music spanning from the Kingston Trio to the Moody Blues, ballads, folk and classic rock, this band features multi-part harmonies, guitar, bass, drums, piano and percussion.
n Williamsport’s Vocal Jazz Quartet at the Lewisburg Club, 131 Market St., from 8-10 p.m. The VJQ performs a wide spectrum of vocal jazz, including many standards, blues, Latin jazz, funk, swing and pop selections. They sing original arrangements as well as charts made popular by groups like Manhattan Transfer; Lambert, Hendricks & Ross; and The New York Voices. The vocal ensemble consists of Lucy Henry, soprano; Cathy Byham, alto; Craig Weaver, tenor; and Tom Shellenberger, bass.
n The PA Premium Crude Blues Band at the Lewisburg Hotel, 136 Market St., from 8-11 p.m. Led by Chris Trasatti on harmonica and vocals, the band plays blues and rock influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan and John Paul Jones.
n Tone Dogz at the Towne Tavern, 600 Market St., beginning at 10 p.m. A classic rock band, Tone Dogz has been playing together for nearly two years. With Scott Satterson and Rich Ahearn on guitar and on vocals, Bob Clough on bass guitar and vocals, and Ed Johnson on drums, these musicians bring together decades of musical experience to create classic rock music that is not to be missed.
n Faculty Lounge at the Bull Run Inn, 605 Market St., beginning at 10:30 p.m. The members of this self-defined “garage pop” band are all professors at Susquehanna University: vocalist David Imhoof, assistant professor of history; lead guitarist Laurence Roth, associate professor of English and Jewish studies; bass player Terry Winegar, professor of psychology and dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences; and drummer Patrick Long, assistant professor of music. Among their influences are The Ramones, REM, AC/DC, Sex Pistols, Prince, and the Psychedelic Furs.
