SUNBURY — The Valley Players Community Theater Group’s summer dinner theater production will be “Art of Murder” by Joe DiPietro. The show will be performed on July 26-27 and Aug. 2-3 at the Packer House, 24 North 3rd St., Sunbury.
The story centers on Jack Brooks, an accomplished and eccentric painter portrayed by David Lauer of Selinsgrove, who is awaiting the arrival of his flamboyant art dealer, Vincent, played by Bob Taylor of Turbotville. Because Jack feels the art dealer has wronged him, Jack plans to kill the man. Jack’s wife, Annie, portrayed by Tara Deljanovan of Sunbury, the Brooks’ housekeeper Kate, played by Lauren Rambo of Selinsgrove, and Vincent himself are involved in double- and triple-crosses that make for a puzzling and hilarious murder mystery based in the often-unpredictable art world.
“Art of Murder” is the 2000 Edgar Award Winner for Best Mystery Play, presented by the Mystery Writers of America.
“What drew me to this script is that truly, no one is who you think they are at the beginning of the play,” Director Joyce M. Hendricks said. “The twists and turns were truly surprising, and it’s difficult to find that in a mystery these days. I also like that it is a traditional murder mystery play, not an audience participation production, so our patrons can sit back, have a wonderful meal from The Packer House, relax and just enjoy the show.”
A dinner menu is in the process of being finalized. Reservations are required. Contact Hendricks at email@example.com or (570) 898-5450 if you would like to be notified when reservations are opened.
The Valley Players Community Theater Organization is a non-profit organization, and has produced musicals, comedies, dramas and interactive murder mysteries throughout the Central Susquehanna Valley since its founding in 1971.
