Area Students Will Accompany U.S. Army Band On July 2

HARRISBURG — Three students from the Lower Dauphin School District will join the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors Band on stage at the July 2 free concert at 7 p.m. at Whitaker Center.

“We were thrilled with the opportunity to showcase the musical talents of these area students alongside the Jazz Ambassadors,” said Dr. Michael Hanes, Whitaker Center president and CEO. “I would like to see a packed house at Tuesday’s free concert during the week of our nation’s birthday.”

The Jazz Ambassadors — America’s Big Band will be joined by Lower Dauphin’s Josh Spada, saxophone; Ryan Smith, trombone; and Danny Snyder, trumpet.

“We are so excited that our students are getting the opportunity to play with such outstanding musicians. We are always looking for ways to show off our LD kids and this experience will be one that our students will never forget.

“Ryan and Danny just graduated this June and have left a legacy of great leadership and musicianship at our school.

Josh has always had a great handle on his saxophone and is going to be a senior in our band program this year. He is a part of an enormously talented saxophone section, any of whom could have represented our school well. These are just three awesome kids and we are so happy to see them get this chance,” said Greg Hutchison, band director, Lower Dauphin Middle School and Keith Richardson, band director, Lower Dauphin High School.

The Jazz Ambassadors—America’s Big Band is the official touring big band of the United States Army. This 19-member ensemble, formed in 1969, has received great acclaim both at home and abroad performing America’s original art form, jazz.
