'Celebration Concert' will offer traditional Christmas German music, stories

— LEWISBURG — The Mifflinburg Christkindl Market and Union County Bicentennial Committee will hold a “Celebration Concert” on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University.

The performance will feature festive and traditional German Christmas music, stories, history, and Christkindl Market traditions.

Under the musical direction of Dr. William Payn, the musicians will include the Susquehanna Valley Chorale, Buffalo Valley Singers, Lewisburg High School Choir, Black Tie Singers, and Mifflinburg High School Brass Ensemble.

In addition to the musical concert, the complete herd of 15 Union County buffalo will make their final joint appearance in the lobby of the Weis Center that evening. These almost life-sized fiberglass animals are a project of The First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (FCFP) which has partnered with local business and individual sponsors to purchase the buffalo.

Each municipality of Union County, along with the county government itself, has been gifted a buffalo to be designed, painted, and kept by the community as a lasting memento of the Union County Bicentennial.

All proceeds from the project benefit the Union County Community Fund which is a permanent source of funding for nonprofits in Union County through the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania.

Herd observers will be able to show their final support of their favorite buffalo and also their support of the Union County Community Fund benefiting nonprofits of Union County by making a cash donation in that particular buffalo’s donation box.

The buffalo may be viewed before the concert and after the concert during a reception with refreshments provided by the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania.
