Eric Bibb and Ruthie Foster give free blues concert Feb. 12

LEWISBURG — Longtime friends and collaborators Ruthie Foster and Eric Bibb will join forces to celebrate a night of joyful roots music on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Campus Theatre in downtown Lewisburg.

Performing on their own and together, the tour title, “Thanks for the Joy,” is drawn from a song written by Bibb and performed by Foster.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A pre-performance talk will take place from 6:45-7:15 p.m.

The performance, presented by the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell, is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.

Grammy nominee Foster is one of the roots music world’s brightest stars. Her latest CD “Let It Burn” debuted on three Billboard charts (Blues, Heatseekers, Top 200) with the Los Angeles Times proclaiming, “to call Ruthie Foster a blues singer is to miss a big chunk of her allure as a vocal stylist, one who draws from a range of influences ...”

Foster won the 2013 Koko Taylor Award (Traditional Blues Female) at the 2013 Blues Music Awards, “Best Female Vocals” at the 2013 Austin Music Awards, and Female Blues Artist of the Year at the 2013 Living Blues Awards in the Critics’ Poll.

Among the most-honored artists at the 2012 Blues Music Awards with three nominations and two wins, Foster has performed at the New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival, Monterey and North Sea Jazz Festivals, and has been featured on national programs such as Austin City Limits, All Things Considered and NPR’s Weekend Edition.

Bibb is a Grammy nominee and 2012 Blues Music Award winner. As the godson of Paul Robeson, the nephew of John Lewis, and the son of Leon Bibb, Eric Bibb was raised in an environment where music mattered crucially.

He brings that same intensity, along with what the Dayton Daily News calls “grace, elegance and gentleness,” to the concert stage as a mature and increasingly popular performer who tours prestigious venues and festivals around the world.
