Concert to present variety of styles
SELINSGROVE — The Susquehanna University Symphonic Band will perform its first concert of the year on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Stretansky Concert Hall, in the Cunningham Center for Music and Art. The concert is free and open to the public.
Presented by Susquehanna’s Department of Music, the concert will feature a varied program. Eric L. Hinton, associate professor of music and concert conductor, said, "The first concert is always exciting, because it includes so many students who are new to the band. We’re exploring some 20th- and 21st-century compositional techniques."
The concert’s selections include: "Overture in B-flat" by Caesar Giovannini, "O Magnum Mysterium" by Morten Lauridsen, "Chorale and Alleluia" by Howard Hanson, "English Dances" by Malcolm Arnold, "Masque" by Kenneth Hesketh, "Medieval Suite" by Ron Nelson, "Shine" by Michael Markowski and "Manhattan Beach" by John P. Sousa. The program will also include Gregorian chant by members of the band.
