Season two of Spoken Word continues in April with special guest speaker and Lycoming College alumni Kyle “The Unnecessary” Kissell, a storyteller and performance artist from Huntingdon.
Somewhere between growing out his magnificent beard and acquiring his master of German literature from Ohio State University, Kissell discovered a talent and passion for telling stories. Since striking out professionally less than two years ago, he has showcased at the 2012 National Storytelling Conference and performed for the Ohio Renaissance Festival, the OSU Renaissance Faire, and Anime Punch’s Revoluticon.
Returning to Williamsport as part of his first tour, Kissel will share tales on the theme of Mistakes: making them, dealing with them and getting the best out of them.
April’s Spoken Word will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the Converge Gallery, 140 W. Fourth St. (between Plankenhorn’s Stationary and The Clothier), downtown Williamsport. Kissel will open the evening up with a short story and then turn the mic to the talent within the crowd.
Anyone interested in reading poetry, prose, free style verse, dramatic readings, stand up comedy and more are welcome to participate. All performances must be kept under 5 minutes. Those interested in participating on stage are asked to arrive at 6:30 p.m. so a running order can be established.
Converge Gallery has been hosting Spoken Word as a free public event for the past year and a half.
