— LEWISBURG — Seventy-one years ago, The Campus Theatre began offering free holiday movies to families during the holiday season in conjunction with canned food collection in exchange for movie admission, which was then donated to the local food bank.
The theater continues this tradition for the 2013 holiday season. Free admission to these movies is made possible through sponsorships from several local businesses and individuals. These holiday films give families of all economic stature the opportunity to see a movie with their community while also contributing to local food banks and the disadvantaged in the area.
In addition, at 1:45 p.m. this Saturday prior to the 2 p.m. film, tap dancers age 7-10 from Downtown Dance studio in Lewisburg will perform a new routine as toy soldiers on stage at the theater. This is Downtown Dance’s third annual holiday movie opener.
On Dec. 21, Santa will visit the theater from noon to 2 p.m. and at 1:50 p.m. a pre-movie Bike Give-Away sponsored by Buffalo Valley Kiwanis will be held.
Doors open one hour before showtime unless otherwise noted. The films, dates and times are:
-- 2 p.m. this Saturday — “Elf” (PG)
-- 2 p.m. Dec. 8 — “A Christmas Story” (PG)
-- 5 p.m. Dec. 15 — “The Bishop’s Wife” (NR)
