Now Hear This: Saturday, Nov. 9

Today marks the beginning of The Susquehanna Heartland Wine Trail’s Nouveau Weekend. Many of the wineries are hosting tastings of their newest vintages. Some will have live music and food; festivities are free and run from 10 a.m. Saturday through 5 p.m. Sunday. On Saturday, Shade Mountain Winery, Route 104, Middleburg, will present Johanna Kodlick from 1-4 p.m., and Spyglass Ridge Winery, outside Sunbury, will feature The Nate Myers Band (formerly known as Nate Myers and the Aces) from 2-4:30 p.m.

For a list of wineries that are part of the trail and their addresses, go to www.pawinetrail.com. Discounted advance tickets to the wine trail’s March Madness will be available for purchase.

Elsewhere, McGuigan’s in Sunbury will welcome the Eighty Six Band from 6-9 p.m.  A special feature of the evening will be the young guitar students of Tom Fitzgerald making their first public appearances. Each will join the band individually during the second set of the evening and play one to two songs with the band. Come out and support these future rock stars as they get their first taste of playing in public.

Ricky and Harv will be at The Den at the intersection of 890 and 61 in Sunbury from 8-11 p.m.  Willie Jack and The Northern Light are just across the river at Daddy McFatty’s, on Front Street in Northumberland. They go on at 10 p.m.

Greg Burgess and Bev Conrad will be at Penn’s Tavern in Fishers Ferry on Route 147. They play from 6-9 p.m.

Ye Olde Meeting Place, Route 405 north of Milton, will be shaking things up for a good cause. There are two bands scheduled to play from 6 p.m. to midnight for a Lifting Little Lives benefit — Triple Dose and Hard Knocks. If you aren’t familiar with them, Hard Knocks, with a female lead singer, is one of the hardest rockin’ local bands. There is a $5 donation to get in and proceeds will go to help sick local children and their families.

Send news about music and venues to Terry Baylor  (terrilm62@yahoo.com) by 5 p.m. on Monday for inclusion in Thursday’s “Now Here This.” Photos always welcome
