Tickets still available for songwriting workshop, concert

MIFFLINBURG — KJ Reimensnyder-Wagner and Carolyn (Gathman) McSween are similar yet originally different. KJ spent her years in Mifflinburg while McSween grew up in Lewisburg. Both singers, songwriters and accomplished vocalists, they will perform together at The Elias Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, Aug. 10.

They will offer a songwriters workshop from 4-6 p.m. and a full concert at 7 p.m. Tickets are: for the workshop — $5, for the concert — $10, and for both workshop and concert — $12; available at or at the door.

Murrie Zlotziver, director of the arts center and friends of both singers, suggested the pairing with the possibility of a twist — Both KJ and McSween would write an original song together for the show.

At age 12, KJ received her first guitar from her parents, originally meant for KJ AND her two sisters. But KJ immediately fell in love with this guitar and took it over. As she matured, she wrote of life opportunities, of land conservation ideas, overcoming physical challenges by others (she’s a spokesperson through song for cancer and RSD), as well the stories of people who have filled her travel schedule with “home-like” situations —  and lyrics — throughout the years. She has also written songs about the region, including one for her favorite town of Mifflinburg, and another in dedication of The Elias Church in Mifflinburg.

McSween found herself recording at an early age, leading to the release of her debut album, “Another Hour.” Her development as a song-crafter and performing artist soon gave birth to an imaginative, captivating, and insightful musical experience for audiences around the world – culminating in her tour to mainland China to headline on the main stage of The Chao Yang International Music Festival in Beijing.

McSween’s original sound forms the centerpiece of her most recent album titled “All Out.”
