Filmmakers scout valley locations

MIFFLINBURG — Your spare coffin could become a star prop in “Gary Saves The Graveyard,” a 45-minute Internet movie being produced by two New Yorkers.

Former Mifflinburg residents Todd Bieber, 34, and Juliana Brafa are in the Valley scouting locations and preparing for their zombie flick. Because they are funding the movie themselves, Bieber said he is searching for props that include a coffin.

In “Gary Saves The Graveyard,” a man takes a job as a grounds-keeper at a cemetery, Bieber said.

The groundskeeper soon realizes that the wall surrounding the cemetery is not to keep people out at night — but to keep its residents in.

“Gary will soon learn he is not very good at his job,” Bieber said Thursday. “He tries to set up games for the residents to play and he tries to keep control, but he ends up leaving the gate open one night.”

That’s when Mifflinburg and Lewisburg will be overrun by Civil War-era dead.

“It’s great to be able to come back here and do this,” Bieber said. “I remember growing up in Mifflinburg and going out and shooting bad movies with my friends, so to be able to come home and get the approval of the towns to do this is great.”

Some of those locations will include the Lewisburg Hotel and Hometown Eatery, Bieber said.

The crew will also shoot in Danville.

“This is going to be a lot of fun,” Bieber said. “We are excited about it.”

Bieber and Brafa are bringing their experience of making films in New York City to the Valley.

“We have four main actors who are coming in with us,” Bieber said. “The rest of the talent we are looking for will be right here in the Valley.”

Bieber said he has spoken with officials at the Campus Theatre, Lewisburg, for a premiere party.

“That,” he said, “would be awesome.”
