— Today's big event is Rock For Relief at the Sunbury Elks on Second Street, Sunbury. It’s a benefit for the American Red Cross and its Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Doors open at 6, music starts at 7, and what a line-up of bands. Check this out: Timothy’s Burden, Hour of Judgment, Big Al and the Hightones, Jesse and Counterfeit Dreams. All this for $5 and a non-perishable food item, or $6.

There’s plenty of competition for your attention this evening. The Countryside Contra Dancers of Lewisburg will hold their monthly dance at the Heiter Community Center, 100 N. Fifth St., Lewisburg from 7:30-10:30, with Terry Bachman calling dances to live music by Total Hip Replacement. $8 cover, and wear soft soled shoes, please.

If you have tickets for the Martina McBride Christmas show at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport Saturday, go a little early and catch Pages of Paul in the Lounge.

And Greg Burgess and Beverly Conrad are at Penn’s Tavern, Route 147 south of Sunbury, from 6-9 p.m.

And then there is the Santa Fest in Selinsgrove, featuring live music in eight venues. All you need to get into any of these places is a canned good, which you can drop off at the Selinsgrove Commons from 4-7 p.m. Here’s the schedule as I have it right now: Different Things at the Kind Cafe 5-7 p.m., Scott Erikson at Stay Sweet Cupcakery 5-7 p.m., JT Blues at the Selinsgrove Hotel 6-8 p.m., Hannah Bingman at the Selinsgrove Inn 7-9, The Sweetbriars at Emma’s Food For Life from 9-11, Ann Kerstetter Trio at Isabella Restaurant 9-11, the Blind Chitlin Kahunas at BJ’s Steak and Rib House 10-midnight and Faculty Lounge at Bot’s Tavern 10-midnight.

And also tonight, Royal Benson will be at the Old Forge Brewing Company in Danville from 7-10 p.m.

Send your local musical offerings, with photos, to by noon on Tuesday for inclusion in The Daily Item’s Thursday Applause section. The more the merrier.....
