Milton church presents holiday spectacular

MILTON — The musical version of the Charles Dickens’ Victorian classic 1800s tale “A Christmas Carol”  comes to life on the stage of Christ Wesleyan Church, 363 Stamm Road, Milton, Dec. 13-16.

Adapted for the musical stage by Keith Ferguson and Bruce Greer of F&G Music, Ltd. of Texas, the lively musical numbers and dramatic storyline chronicle the transformation of stingy, hard-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge into a generous, compassionate man through the visits of his deceased business partner Jacob Marley and the awakening revelations of three ghosts.

Dickens, known for increasing awareness in England to the widespread poverty and want existent in the lower classes through the characters in his many novels, uses the meager income and poverty conditions of the Cratchit family to help touch Scrooge’s heart. With more than 75 church and community volunteers in cast and crew, the London set teems with color and activity. Humor is interspersed with the seriousness to provide a balance in the drama.

The performance times are 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 ages 13 and older, $5 for ages 6-12 and free for those age 5 and under and will be available at the door before each performance. Tickets can also be purchased at the church office weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the church Well Read Bookstore, at Kuhns Bros. Surplus Outlet in Milton, and at Lipski Eye Center in Lewisburg.

Following the Friday night performance, theater-goers are invited to The Well Coffee Shop at CW for Christmas caroling by Victorian carolers from the cast of the play.

Proceeds will be used toward construction of a well in a Guatemalan village which has been without water for seven years.
