Mutual aid on the way to Anthony Township

EXCHANGE -- The Danville Ambulance Service and Warrior Run Fire Department are working on a mutual aid agreement for Anthony Township residents who are members of the services.

The Danville Ambulance Service hopes to sign a similar agreement with Clarkstown, which also provides ambulance service in the township, said Scott Lynn, Danville Ambulance Service director. He plans to continue to try to reach a Clarkstown official to discuss this, he told township residents Tuesday night.

The township supervisors asked the Montour County commissioners for help because they were worried one ambulance service may not honor the membership of another squad called to transport a resident.

Lynn said he needs to present the mutual aid agreement with Warrior Run to his ambulance board of directors for approval. He encouraged any resident with a billing matter to call the Danville service at 275-3031.

In 2008, the majority of ambulance calls in the township were covered by the Danville and Warrior Run services. Clarkstown didn't have any calls in the township last year, he said.

Clarkstown and Warrior Run don't provide advanced life support or paramedics so if they are needed, Danville or Muncy responds.

With quick responders recently trained, equipped and licensed in Washingtonville, he said they are a valuable asset in saving the lives of heart attack patients, for example. "This is a great program," he said in encouraging other community members to become a part of it.

"We are lucky that we are well-covered with Geisinger and have a great bunch of volunteer firefighters and emergency responders," said Commissioners Vice Chairman Jack Gerst, a former firefighter as is Commissioner Jerry Ward. Commissioners Chairman Trevor Finn is an active Danville firefighter.
