DANVILLE — Before signing a letter of support for Central Susquehanna Opportunities, Montour County commissioners want information on how the program serves county residents.
CSO officials told commissioners earlier Tuesday they would attend Tuesday night’s commissioners’ meeting, but later called to say they would not attend, Commissioners Chairman Trevor Finn said.
“CSO used to work in conjunction with our human services department but split,” he said. “They work with people in moving from public assistance to self-sufficiency. We need to know numbers.”
The commissioners also want CSO officials to present the information at a public meeting. Finn said the county has invested $29,000 with CSO, which has an office in Danville.
“We don’t know who they are helping and what they are doing,” he said.
Commissioners Vice Chairman Jack Gerst said he wants to make sure the money from the county is being spent on county residents. Also, commissioners:
-- Increased from $12,500 to $20,000 the amount of county tourism grants agencies can apply for.
-- Tabled action on Psychological Services service agreements with the children and youth agency until fees can be clarified.
-- Approved an agreement with children and youth and the law offices of Marks, McLaughlin and Dennehy for solicitor services at $85 an hour and $100 per quarter retainer.
