DANVILLE -- On Sat, Oct. 4, the Montour Area Recreation Commission (MARC) will host young riders, ages 4 to 16, for a youth mountain biking event. The ride is part of a nationwide celebration known as Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, supported by the International Mountain Bicycling Association.

The event starts at 9 a.m. from Hess Field Park on Meadow Street in Danville.

Riders ages 4 to 16 are welcome. Parents are welcome to ride, too.

This event is free. There are two separate rides: younger kids and older kids. Younger kids, ages 4 through 9, will start at 9 a.m until around 10 a.m. All riders will get a race number to put on their bike and some stickers.

Older kids, ages 10 through 16, start at 10 a.m. and goes till around noon.

After the ride "racer food" Clif bar snacks and water will be supplied.

Register in advance by calling 271-1055 and leave a message, or just show up and ride Saturday morning.

Be sure to bring bikes and helmets. Water and snacks will be supplied. If you don't have a bike, six will be available for "borrowing" provided by the Danville Area School District biking program. First come first served.

A waiver form is not required. Everyone rides at their own risk.

This will be the first official event on the new "Bike Skills Course" which is under construction at Hess Field. This park is one of only 30 skills parks in the country.
